Janine Polak
Thirsty
OCTOBER 10 - NOVEMBER 1 2015
SARDINE is very pleased to present Thirsty by Janine Polak. The exhibition opens with a reception on Saturday, October 10th, 6-9pm, and runs through November 1, 2015.
Janine Polak’s second solo show at SARDINE , Thirsty is both a continuation and opening up of her previous explorations into the subtleties of human interaction and the power struggles within. By addressing precise moments remembered, expected, or longed after, she carefully imagines the things right and wrong with nature, sex, and beauty. A poetic fine-tuning of materials – stretched fabric, jewelry, ceramics, clothing, etc. – mimics their own uses and finds others. They are bold moments of insight and observation. Without telling the viewer how to feel, they remind us of and quietly poke fun at our own vulnerability, embarrassment, and fear.
Janine Polak earned dual undergraduate degrees in Studio Art and Economics at the University of Virginia in 2005, and an MFA in Sculpture from the Yale School of Art in 2008. She has participated in exhibitions in China, Australia, and New York including shows at Scott Charmin, Daily Operation, Essex Flowers, TSA New York, and Sardine. She lives and works in Queens, NY.
SARDINE is located on the ground floor of 286 Stanhope Street, Brooklyn. For more information, please visit sardinebk.com. Contact: Lacey Fekishazy and Jon Lutz at sardinebk@gmail.com.
