Desiree Leary
VISION TRAPS
NOVEMBER 23 2013 - JANUARY 5 2014
SARDINE is pleased to present VISION TRAPS, a solo exhibition by Desiree Leary. The show opens Saturday, November 23 from 6 to 9pm and will be up through January 5, 2014.
Desiree photographs with only her phone and a point-and-shoot camera. With minimal techniques and a distinctive eye, she stretches the possibilities of the medium by using various low-tech, consumer-friendly platforms and hands-on presentations. While the images themselves are grounded in the tradition of snapshot photography, no image is too precious to be transformed into a dinner plate, printed onto canvas or turned into a paperweight.
Desiree Leary was born in Taiwan, raised in Pennsylvania and now lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She received a BFA from Alfred University, an MLIS from Rutgers University and will begin MFA studies at Hunter College in January. In 2012, she was awarded the Print Media Residency at the Institute for Electronic Arts in Alfred, NY. Her work has most recently been seen at TEMP, NY and Bushwick Open Studios.
